GIVING TREE A GREAT SUCCESS - THANKS TO YOU !!!
We hope that by participating in the Giving Tree last Christmas, you and your family learned about a few hard working Catholics living overseas, dedicated to improving the lives of so many living in poor communities. Thanks to you, St. John’s has been able to make a personal connection to several priests, nuns, physicians, and lay parishioners who teach, provide health care, feed, clothe, educate, train, shelter and minister to those in our world who don’t have the opportunities that we do here in Hopkinton.
Thank you so much not only for your financial support of these projects, but also for the lovely, supportive cards and letters that you took the time to write to these individuals. This means so much to them—as acknowledged in the letters we get back! Even in these difficult economic times, St. John’s donated a total of $8,933 this year!
The Third World Apostolate also thanks all the women of WINGS who cut out the ornaments for the tree, and the 7th Grade religious-ed students, and their coordinator Elaine Mitsock, who decorated the ornaments so artistically! [READ MORE]
BICYCLE COLLECTION 2008 - A GREAT SUCCESS!
Thanks to all who took the time to donate a bike(s) to St. John`s bike collection for Bikes-Not-Bombs (BNB). We collected 118 bikes! We had great participation during the collection from nine 9th grade students and one 6th grader who volunteered to get the bikes ready to be loaded onto the truck for shipment. (All the bikes needed to have their pedals removed and turned in, handle bars turned sideways and all seats put into their lowest position.) Also several members of TESTAMENT volunteered to assist throughout the day! A BNB representative told us that the bikes would most likely be shipped to Tanzania later this month. These bikes can help in many areas – allowing a child access to a school, helping entire families with business opportunities and allowing them better access to health care, as well as opening up economic development projects such as micro-enterprise bike businesses and sustainable technology projects. A BNB representative told how a family he met in Guatemala went to church with Dad pedaling, Mom riding side saddle, with one child on the front fender and another on the back! Thanks to all who donated bikes and to those who were so generous to donate their time to assist to make this bike collection such a success!!!
