St. John`s Child Sponsorship Program - Thank You for Your Support in Helping to Educate Poor Children
This spring St. John’s conducted its annual Child Sponsorship Program during which several projects were offered for parishioners to sponsor. This is our major parish effort to help poor children in developing countries, and is organized by our Third World Apostolate. We are pleased to report that your generosity will enable the following:
St. John’s Youth Ministry was given a check for $1,000 to hand deliver to the Escuelita Nazareth School in Honduras which is a school for children and young people with special needs. Since ninety percent of the students come from families living at or below the poverty line, all support is welcome. Maryknoll Lay Missioners, Joe and Becky Sherman in Bolivia will receive $1,000 in monetary donations for the Education Community for Life school to fund one of its most urgent needs--teacher salaries at a cost of $400 per year. The Missionary Sisters of the Presentation of Mary in Cameroon will receive $1,000 to furnish a new nursery school with tables, chairs, benches, supplies and some toys. Lastly, we are very happy to report that 9 parishioners will directly support 9 children and 1 adult through the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging (CFCA) in several developing countries (total pledges of $3600). This is an ongoing commitment through which parishioners pay for tuition costs (books, supplies), medical and dental checkups and in some needy cases, food supplies for the family of the sponsored child or adult. We hope that these new sponsors will find their commitment and relationship to their sponsored friend a most rewarding experience. Thanks to all for your interest, support and commitment to these projects and missions!
